Moving From PlayHT to TextSpeakPro
PlayHT shut down permanently on December 31, 2025, after Meta acquired its team in July 2025. If you used it for voiceovers and need somewhere new for your scripts, here is what TextSpeakPro offers, where it falls short, and how to move.
What Happened to PlayHT
Meta acquired Play AI, the company behind PlayHT, in July 2025, and the PlayHT team moved to Meta. PlayHT then closed all of its products on December 31, 2025. Its homepage was still running on December 24, 2025 and read "We have shut down the service" by January 6, 2026. As of September 23, 2026, play.ht no longer loads at all.

What Moves Over, and What Does Not
- Languages: PlayHT listed 142 languages. TextSpeakPro speaks 15: English (US, UK, Australian and Indian), Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, Dutch and Polish. If you need a language outside those 15, we are not the right replacement, and it is better to know that now.
- Voice clones: PlayHT clones cannot be transferred. On Studio ($15 a month) you can clone a voice again from 15 to 30 seconds of clear speech you have the rights to, with 3 voice slots.
- Scripts: Paste them in as they are. A single request takes up to 5,000 characters on Starter, 10,000 on Pro and 20,000 on Studio, so most chapters and episodes fit in one or two requests.
- API: Studio includes a REST API with a Bearer key. It is not a drop-in replacement for the PlayHT API, so integration code needs rewriting. See the API docs.
- Downloads: MP3 and WAV on Starter and up, with commercial rights on every paid plan.

Billed annually, the plans are $40, $90 and $150 a year. Hours assume 725 to 1,000 characters per minute of finished audio. PlayHT prices are not shown because the service no longer exists.
How to Move
- Gather your scripts from your own files. PlayHT is offline, so its project history cannot be exported any more.
- Listen to the voices on the homepage, where 3 Studio voice previews work without an account.
- Create a free account and generate your own text with the one-time 2,000 free characters.
- Pick a plan. Studio ($15 a month) is the one to choose if you need voice cloning or the API.
